Okapi Wine, 2012 Napa Valley Chardonnay

  • 155 cases produced

  • 100% Chardonnay

  • Aged 12 months on 30% new French oak

As a young lawyer in the 1980s, Dan Johnson handled a legal matter for a well-known winemaker, which sparked his interest in wine and dreams of having a vineyard in Napa Valley. In 2006, his dream became a reality. Dan, and his wife Kim, transformed a walnut orchard into a vineyard. Okapi produces about 300 cases a year — what the winery lacks in quantity is made up in quality with award-winning wines that zing with innovation and creativity.

Tasting Notes: This wine presents aromas of rich French pastries and fresh picked apples and figs, spiced with hints of exotic lychee and wildflower honey. On the palate the mouthfeel is expansive and vibrant, with subtly layered flavors of mandarin orange, hazelnut, lemon, creme fraiche and a lively minerality that lingers in the energetic finish.

J. Moss Wines, 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Mee Lane Vineyard, Rutherford

  • 300 cases produced

  • 100% clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon

  • Aged 28 months on 100% French oak

James Moss hails from Dallas, Texas where he first was introduced to fine wines working for a Texas distributor. He decided to move to California in 1998 to follow his dream to create high quality, hand crafted, small lots of cabernet sauvignon from top Napa Valley appellations. James spent evenings and weekends learning the intricacies of winemaking and was fortunate to have the opportunity to work alongside two phenomenal winemakers in the Valley; Mark Jessup, former winemaker from Jessup Cellars, Robert Mondavi and Opus One and now winemaker at J. Gregory Wines, and subsequently with renown winemaker Gustavo Brambila.

Tasting Notes: A powerful, classic collector's single vineyard Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is produced with precise hand-crafting in the Bordeaux style with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Opulent wine, true to the classic Rutherford Dust dense, pure and saturated profile. A bright, complex, plush and full bodied, age-worthy Cabernet with ample layers of bright cassis, succulent black fruit, hints of mocha, tobacco, sweet vanilla whiskey, leather and warm toasted spices. Substantial, yet supple tannins round out this well balanced wine with a long, complex finish.
